Investigating the Potential of Biobinder for Bottom Ash Solidification/Stabilization: Leaching Behaviour and pH Dependence

Nowadays, a large amount of municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash (IBA) is produced from plants; therefore, it still challenge for IBA management. To investigate the potential microbially-induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) treatment, harmless biobinder was prepared by using biosolutions with different bacterial concentrations. A series tests were carried out on sample treated biosolutions, such as leaching behavior, sequential extraction, pH dependence, pore distribution, and microscopic morphology. The results showed that Zn, Cu, Pb in after biotreatment all below standard limitation. In 108 cells/mL concentration, concentrations Pb, Cr 0.39 mg/L, 0.12 0.025 0.021 respectively, average immobilization ratio reached 76.4%. characterization morphology biomineralization generated number bioprecipitates biogels, which formed compact structure to reduce size samples, thus immobilizing heavy metals. bacteria could change chemical speciation bonds metals induction, turned into stable compounds.
